The First XI comprehensively defeated their visitors, Lutonian, who had beaten them in the reverse fixture.
Julien Fynn, 1-20 in his 10 overs provided the brake whilst Jack Tidey 4-33 was the spearhead that left their opponents 54-5 after 20 overs. Everyone was talking about Tidey’s remarkable final over which read: snick dropped, snick dropped, snick caught, bowled!
Captain, Rob Lankester, then introduced a novelty for Reed in recent seasons – spin twins, Will Archer making his first team debut alongside the seasoned campaigner, Tom Greaves. Their 20 overs were equally profitable with Archer returning 1-35 and Greaves 3-24. This left Sam Edkins, who had earlier held a blinder at mid off, bowling the last man. Lutonians out for just 128.
Sean Tidey was again asked to open, hoping he would chase such a small total in quick time. Indeed this is exactly what he did, hitting 7 boundaries in his 50, but he was supported this time by Will Heslam, who also matched his half century as the pair put on 87 for the second wicket. This left Charlie Walters to chip in with10 and Lankester to finish the job with a rapid 15 as Reed won comfortably by 6 wickets.
The league is very competitive with Reed third although only 4 points separate the top 4 teams.
